2010 Youth Choir Festival
The 28th SC United Methodist Youth Choir Festival was held April 23 - 25, 2010 at Springmaid Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. Dr. Kenney Potter, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Wingate University, Wingate, NC, was the guest clinician. Mr. Timothy Belk, Director of Music Ministries and Organist at First Presbyterian Church in Gastonia , NC, was the accompanist. Fifteen churches from South Carolina (10), North Carolina (2) and Georgia (3) participated in the festival which was comprised of 128 youth and 53 adults. Four churches (Duluth First UMC, Duluth, GA; Gainesville First UMC, Gainesville, GA; St. John’s UMC - Fort Mill, SC and St. Luke UMC - Hartsville, SC) were first time participants in the festival. St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken, SC brought 17 youth and was the winner of the Berryman Cup traveling trophy. The Berryman Cup trophy is given to the church who brings the most youth to the festival.
The youth sang for the 11:00 a.m. service at Macedonia United Methodist Church in Mullins, SC. They sang Jesus, What a Wonderful Child arranged by Rollo Dilworth; Rejoice, the Lord is King by Malcolm Archer; Sanctus No. III by J.S. Bach and arranged by David Stocker; I Will Sing Unto the Lord by Kenney Potter; A Mighty Fortress Is Our God arranged by Mark Patterson and Gracious Spirit, Dwell with Me arranged by K. Lee Scott.
