2009 Youth Choir Festival
The 27th annual South Carolina United Methodist Youth Choir Festival was held April 24 - 26, 2009 at Springmaid Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. Pepper Choplin, Minister of Music at Greystone Baptist Church, in Raleigh, NC, was the clinician and Tim Belk, Organist and Communications Director at First Presbyterian Church in Gastonia, NC, was the accompanist. Fourteen churches from North Carolina and South Carolina participated in the festival. 132 youth and 45 adults attended the festival. The Berryman Cup, the traveling trophy that resides the next year with the church who brought the most youth, went home with Haymount United Methodist Church from Fayetteville, NC who had 19 youth to attend. On Sunday morning, the youth sang for the 11:00 am worship service at Main Street United Methodist Church in Dillon, SC. During the service, they sang Holy and Mighty by Pepper Choplin, Mass No. 6 in E Flat (D950): Kyrie by Franz Schubert, Soli Deo Gloria by Larry Bryant and arranged by Mark Hayes, God So Loved the World by Dan Goeller, Once Upon a Tree by Pepper Choplin and Order My Steps by Glenn Burleigh and arranged by Jack Schrader.
