2008 Youth Choir Festival
The 26th SC United Methodist Youth Choir Festival was held April 18 - 20, 2008 at Springmaid Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. Dr. Jerry Ulrich, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Georgia Institute of Technology, was the guest clinician. Mr. Tim Belk, Organist and Communications Director at First Presbyterian Church in Gastonia and President of Case Brothers Piano and Organ Company in Charlotte, NC, was the accompanist. Sixteen churches from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia participated in the festival which was comprised of 133 youth and 51 adults. Haymount United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC brought 29 youth and was the winner of the Berryman Cup traveling trophy. Haymount UMC was the winner of the Berryman Cup in 2004 and 2005. The Berryman Cup trophy is given to the church who brings the most youth to the festival.
The youth sang for the 10:30 a.m. service at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Florence, SC. They sang How Can I Keep from Singing by Jerry Ulrich; Al Shlosha D’Varim by Allan E. Naplan; Wade in the Water by Barbara Day Miller and edited by Jerry Ulrich; The Birds by Benjamin Britten and Chester by William Billings.
