2006 Youth Choir Festival
The 24th SC United Methodist Youth Choir Festival was held April 28 - 30, 2006 at Springmaid Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. Dr. Wesley Gilliland, Director of Music and Worship at Woodway First United Methodist Church in Waco, TX, was the guest clinician. Dr. Gilliland was formerly the Associate Dean of Music and Director of the Ensemble Division at Baylor University. Mr. Tim Belk, organist at First Presbyterian Church in Gastonia and President of Case Brothers Piano and Organ Company in Charlotte, NC, was the accompanist. Twenty churches from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia participated in the festival which was comprised of 162 youth and 64 adults. St John's United Methodist Church in Anderson, SC brought 20 youth and was the winner of the Berryman Cup traveling trophy. The Berryman Cup trophy is given to the church who brings the most youth to the festival.
The youth sang for the 10:30 a.m. service at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Florence, SC. They sang Psalm 47 by Gracia Grindal/Bradley Ellingboe; O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing by Mark Miller; Lord Make Me an Instrument of thy Peace by Ken Medema and arranged by Mark Hayes; Praise Him by Craig Courtney; Lamb of God, Grant Us Peace by Z. Randall Stroope and Praise His Holy Name! by Keith Hampton.
