2005 Youth Choir Festival
The 23rd SC United Methodist Youth Choir Festival was held April 22 - 24, 2005 at Springmaid Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. Mr. Daniel R. Stokes, Director of Music Ministries at Christ Church United Methodist in Louisville, KY, was the guest clinician. Mr. Stokes was the Lake Junaluska 2003 Music and Liturgical Arts Week Middle High clinician. Mr. Tim Belk, organist at First Presbyterian Church in Gastonia and President of Case Brothers Piano and Organ Company in Charlotte, NC, was the accompanist. Twenty-three churches from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia participated in the festival which was comprised of 196 youth and 69 adults. Haymount United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC brought 25 youth and was the winner of the Berryman Cup traveling trophy for the second consecutive year. The Berryman Cup trophy is given to the church who brings the most youth to the festival.
The youth sang for the 10:30 a.m. service at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Florence, SC. They sang Praise the Lord, Be Joyful by Mozart and arranged by Hal Hopson; God is Our Refuge and Strength by Allen Pote; Sometimes a Light Surprises by Craig Courtney; God is Able by Mark Miller and I'm Goin' Up a Yonder by Walter Hawkins.
