2004 Youth Choir Festival
The 22nd SC United Methodist Youth Choir Festival was held April 23 - 25, 2004 at Springmaid Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. Dr. Lillian Quackenbush, chair of the Department of Music at Columbia College in Columbia, SC, was the guest clinician and Mr. Tim Belk, organist at First Presbyterian Church in Gastonia and President of Case Brothers Piano and Organ Company in Charlotte, NC, was the accompanist. Twenty-one churches from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia participated in the festival which comprised 163 youth and 62 adults. Haymount United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC brought 21 youth and was the winner of the Berryman Cup traveling trophy. The Berryman Cup trophy is given to the church who has the largest number of youth participating in the festival.
The youth sang for the 8:30 a.m. service at Surfside United Methodist Church in Surfside Beach and for the 11:00 a.m. service at Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway, SC. They sang Cry Out, Zion by Carl Nygard, Jr.; Prayer Litany by Helen Kemp; How Beautiful by Paris/Courtney; Gloria in excelsis by Vivaldi/Martens and Hope for Resolution by Caldwell/Ivory.
