2012 Church Music Workshop

The 2012 Church Music Workshop will be February 3 and 4, 2012 at Shandon United Methodist Church located at 3407 Devine Street in Columbia, SC. Clinicians are Dr. Marcia McFee - Worship Arts; Dr. Adam Ward - Organ; Michael Helman - Handbells; Linda Caldwell - Dance and Rob McFarland - Contempory Worship. Dr. William (Bill) Carroll will lead the Hinshaw reading session and there will also be a Choristers Guild reading session. Pecknel Music and Jeffers Handbell Supply will have displays.

2012 Youth Choir Festival

The 2012 S.C. United Methodist Youth Choir Festival will be April 27-29, 2012 with Dan Stokes as the guest clinician and Tim Belk as the accompanist.

Daniel R. Stokes is a native of Hummelstown, PA where he began serving as a church musician at age 12. Upon graduation from Messiah College, he was selected as the distinguished graduate of the class of 1980. He received his Masters Degree from Scarritt Graduate School in Nashville, TN in 1982 and continued as Director of Music Ministries at Belmont United Methodist Church, a position he assumed during his graduate studies. In 1989 he accepted the call to be Director of Music Ministries at Christ Church United Methodist in Louisville, KY where he administers a music program with more than six hundred participants. In 1999 the Chancel Choir of Christ Church was featured with the Louisville Orchestra singing Mahler’s Third Symphony. They joined the orchestra again in 2004 for a presentation of the Verdi Requiem. The Middle School Choir was selected to sing “The Polar Express” with the orchestra in December of 2000.

Dan has led numerous regional choral festivals for Choristers Guild, the Presbyterian Association of Musicians and the Fellowship of United Methodists in Worship and Arts. He recently served as Instrumental Editor of Church Music Workshop and was the Lake Junaluska 2003 Music and Liturgical Arts Week Middle High clinician.

Mr. Stokes has served as organist and clinician for national events including the convocation to introduce the 1989 United Methodist Hymnal.

Tim Belk, Accompanist

Tim Belk, accompanist

Tim Belk is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. As a North Carolina Emerging Artist grant recipient, he continued post-graduate studies at the Conservatoire de Musique in Geneva, Switzerland where he was a pupil of world renown organist Lionel Rogg. Mr. Belk is currently the Music Director/Organist and Communications Director at First Presbyterian Church in Gastonia and President of Case Brothers Piano and Organ Company. He has a keen interest in the arts and devotes himself to the church and its mission as the center of the community through worship and music ministries.

This is Tim’s tenth year as festival accompanist. Welcome back, Tim!
